The M3 Group receives supports from two new Nuclear Energy University (NEUP) projects starting 10/1/2020:
- “Statistical modeling of the effect of microstructural heterogeneity on the irradiation behavior of TRISO fuel buffer layer”. This project studies the correlation between the initial pore structure in the buffer pyrocarbon layer and the subsequent fracture during operation in TRISO fuel particles. This project is led by Prof. Yongfeng Zhang, in collaboration with Prof. Ramathasan Thevamaran and Kumar Sridharan at UW, Prof. Krim Ahmed at TAMU, Drs. Wen Jiang at INL, and Dr. Tyler Gerczak at ORNL. https://neup.inl.gov/FY%202020%20CINR%20Abstracts/CFA-20-19556_TechnicalAbstract_2020CFATechnicalAbstract20-19556.pdf
- “HIP Cladding and Joining to Manufacture Large Dissimilar Metal Structures for Modular and GEN IV Reactors“. This project is led by Prof. Xiaoyuan Lou at Auburn University. At UW we will study the formation of interaction zone during diffusion bonding of dissimilar metals. https://neup.inl.gov/FY%202020%20CINR%20Abstracts/CFA-20-19356_TechnicalAbstract_2020CFATechnicalAbstract20-19356.pdf
